from the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center
December 15, 2014 - December 10, 2015.
Anyone who was in Philadelphia on Philly Photo Day – October 10, 2014 -- was invited to take a photograph on that day of anything in the city. One day, each year, citizens of the city and its guests can take part in a communal celebration of photography. Whether using a phone, tablet, or digital camera, Philly Photo Day is about engaging people with the medium of photography. This day-long photo event, now in its fifth year, is an initiative of the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, a non-profit organization founded in 2009 devoted to the study, practice, and appreciation of photography throughout the region. Philly Photo Day has grown from 300 participants in the first year to more than 1,900 in 2014.
To participate, each photographer electronically submitted one photo to the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. All of the photos taken on Philly Photo Day have been printed and included in an exhibition at the Center. In addition, 40 photos were chosen for public display on billboards throughout Philadelphia to broadcast this unique project city-wide.
Philly Photo Day 2014 on view at the Airport includes 176 photos providing regional, national, and international passengers with snapshots of a day in the life of the City of Philadelphia.
