Betweens Terminal B and C

April 25, 2002 - October 2, 2002

Philadelphia fiber artist Yvonne Pacanovsky Bobrowicz creates sculptural forms by knotting hundreds of suspended strands of monofilament (a synthetic fiber commonly used as fishing line). Bobrowicz characteristically uses a horizontal rod as the only supportive structure from which the mass of entangled fibers hang. No single strand can be followed through the form. Depending upon the density and overall shape, the sculptures appear to be embroiled clouds, tangled nets, or billowing curtains of hair. Bobrowicz's color palette is minimal using combinations of white, dark gray, and gold. The dark monofilament absorbs light while the white and gold leafed strands transmit light creating an ephemeral glow from within.
