Since the mid-80's, textile artist Susie Brandt has been working on a series of quilts using found fabric that she has collected over many years. Brandt, along with her network of family and friends, visits flea markets and second-hand stores to look for common materials such as panty hose, doilies, print fabric, and Barbie Doll clothes. When she has amassed enough of the same item, she begins the labor-intensive sewing process.
Brandt's bed covers are based on traditional quilt-making using similar dimensions and sewing techniques. But Brandt's use of unconventional materials has dramatically changed their meaning and aesthetic. She has reinvented the quilt through imaginative and often humorous methods.
