Philadelphia photographer Harry Kalish is inspired by nature. He is particularly interested in subtle atmospheric phenomena such as the wind, cloud formations, reflections on the water, or mist-fleeting and ephemeral natural processes that are often beyond perception. Using black-and-white photography, Kalish's images combine realism with abstraction as blurred floating leaves appear as dapples of light against the water. Without color and tightly cropped, it is difficult to perceive what is foreground, background, or a reflection. Kalish wants you to see the clouds, the forest, the wind, and the water as living forces that are always in transition, always in motion.
