Civil Engineering: Philadelphia
Terminal F, Concourse 2
|
One of the first documented examples of an American civil engineering
project was William Penn's grid design for center city Philadelphia. Created in
the late 17th century, Penn's plan is recognized as a significant milestone in
American civil engineering history as it became a model for city planning
throughout colonial America. Over 300 years later, Penn's design remains a
defining characteristic of the city. . This exhibition is a
celebration of civil engineering in Philadelphia-home to many innovative
projects and structures that are designated as National Historic Civil
Engineering Landmarks including Penn's city plan, Fairmount Waterworks, City
Hall, Reading Terminal Train Shed, and Frankford Avenue Bridge. |
