NHS Human Services Art by Students at NHS Autism Schools

September 9, 2010 - March 20, 2011

NHS Human Services is one of the largest non-profit providers of human services in the United States. Through its subsidiaries, NHS offers a full range of integrated services in the areas of mental health, addictive diseases, autism, education, intellectual and developmental disabilities, juvenile justice, foster care and other specialized services. The NHS continuum of care allows individuals to access multiple services across disciplines and provides access to the most qualified professionals. NHS also assures the highest quality of care that serves over 50,000 children and adults every year throughout 7 states - Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Virginia, Maryland and Louisiana.

NHS currently has nine schools, licensed as Private Academic Schools in Pennsylvania, which specialize in the education of children and adolescents with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. NHS has incorporated the best of its existing autism services into an educational setting that provides a quality school experience for children no matter what their diagnosis or limitations. There are currently 272 children enrolled in NHS Autism Schools. This exhibition features a selection of their artwork.

Through various artistic mediums, students have the opportunity to effectively and creatively express their thoughts, ideas, and emotions. Art helps the students communicate, whereas they may not be able to in other ways.
