The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, located in Philadelphia’s Parkway Museums District, is America’s oldest natural history museum and a world leader in biodiversity and environmental research. For 200 years, the Academy has carried out its mission to encourage and cultivate the sciences, exploring the remarkable diversity of our natural world and sharing these discoveries publicly through extraordinary collections, innovative exhibits, educational programming, and scientific publications.

As part of its many distinguished collections, the Academy maintains an internationally renowned ornithological collection of nearly 200,000 bird specimens representing more than 7,000 species in addition to more than 15,000 tissue samples. It is among the 10 largest bird collections in the world. The Academy’s avian holdings are unique featuring the most complete series of Andean birds in any ornithological collection. Along with extensive specimens from South America and Southeast Asia, the collection also has a substantial assemblage of extinct and endangered bird species.

This exhibition is a celebration of the Academy’s 200th anniversary and its scientific contributions of the past, the present, and for future generations to come.
