Between Terminals A and B
March 20, 2010 - October 31, 2010
The award-winning Claymobile, Philadelphia, is the outreach component of The Clay Studio. For this exhibit, The Claymobile partnered with four local schools - Independence Charter School, St. Mary's Interparochial School, The Youth Study Center, and Spruce Hill Christian School. Each has created a unique ceramic-based work of art, truly a "cabinet of wonder" that showcases the talents of Philadelphia school children and The Claymobile's four Teaching Artists who developed these projects - Lana Heckendorn, Joanie Turbek, Rebecca Weisner, and Mike Zerbe.
The Claymobile program, founded in 1994, partners with schools, community-based organizations, and social service agencies around the region to provide disadvantaged youth with innovative, hands-on approaches to learning that strengthen and enhance existing cultural programs, supplement educational curricula, and serve as a catalyst for community engagement. The Claymobile is 100% mobile and is equipped with everything needed to turn a classroom space into a fully functioning ceramics studio.
The internationally renowned Clay Studio, founded in 1974 and home to The Claymobile, is a non-profit educational arts organization dedicated to the promotion and development of the ceramic arts and the work of new clay artists. The Clay Studio supports the ceramic arts through its artist residencies, gallery, studio space, school, educational and outreach programs, and its permanent collection.
