Terminal B/C, on view through December 3, 1999
Philadelphia artist Ron Klein is known for his sculptural assemblages of ordinary objects. He is also known for his fascination for exotic places. In 1997, he had the opportunity to travel to the country of Myanmar, commonly known as Burma, where he commissioned local fishermen to hand-tie nets of specific proportions. He also purchased objects from the local markets such as handmade paper umbrellas, feather dusters, and woven hats. On his return home Klein combined the handmade nets with the found objects to create unique sculptural forms that meld two distinct cultures-American and Burmese.
