Anyone who was in Philadelphia on Philly Photo Day – October 26, 2012 -- was invited to take a photograph on that same day of anything within the city. One day, each year, citizens of the city and its guests can take part in a communal celebration of photography. Whether using a phone, computer, or digital camera, Philly Photo Day is about engaging people with the medium of photography and the realization that creativity is universal to all of us. This day-long photo event, now in its third year, is an initiative of the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, a non-profit organization founded in 2009 devoted to the study, practice, and appreciation of photography throughout the region. Philly Photo Day has grown from 300 participants in the first year to more than 1,800 in 2012.

To participate, each photographer electronically submitted one photo to the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. All of the photos taken on Philly Photo Day have been printed and included in a month-long exhibition at the Crane Arts Building starting December 6, 2012. In addition, several photos will be placed on SEPTA buses and billboards as a way to broadcast this unique project city-wide. Some 176 photos have been selected and are featured in this presentation at Philadelphia International Airport, providing local, national, and international passengers with snapshots of a day in the life of the city.
