Inspired by his memories of riding carousels as a child, Philadelphia sculptor Pasquale Pileggi hand-carves miniature wooden replicas of historic carousel horses. His work is often based on antique horses crafted in the early 1900's by two famous Philadelphia manufacturers-G.A. Dentzel Company and the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. Pileggi's woodcarvings honor the "Philadelphia style" which is characterized as fanciful but realistic. Like his predecessors, Pileggi's wooden horses are elaborately hand-carved and feature brightly colored embellishments.
