Precision Models From the Franklin Mint, Media, Pennsylvania

Terminal E, on view through February 2000

Philadelphia International Airport This exhibition celebrates the joy of collecting, the artistry of modelmaking, and our cultural fascination with automobiles, motorcycles, and aircraft. The process of creating these miniature replicas takes approximately 18 months. First a group of talented artists, engineers, designers, as well as automotive and aviation historians determine which object to replicate. Then hundreds of photographs are taken of the original vehicle. Engineers meticulously sketch and hand measure every dimension including the engine, chassis, and unique detailing. Finally the model is sent to the manufacturer for their approval and authorization of authenticity.
