Florence Putterman: Tales of Wonder

Terminal F, Concourse 1

Florence Putterman is a painter and printmaker who creates visual narratives on canvas and paper. Her imagery typically features human figures interacting with nature such as animals or animal-like creatures, water, plant forms, and celestial bodies. The prints, as seen in this exhibition, are predominantly crafted from simple shapes and outlines, a characteristic suggestive of folk art, particularly as she uses symbolism in lieu of realism. This technique enhances the sense of spontaneity and embodies an inner, childlike energy. Putterman's unique visual vocabulary and creative process have been described as emerging from the artist's subconscious world - "the primordial stew of memory, dream, history and fantasy." Although Putterman's memories and images are her own, she continually creates intriguing tales of wonder for all to experience.
