Terminal A-East Baggage Claim
(open to the public)
In 2009, students
from Constitution High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and students from Marefat
High School in Kabul, Afghanistan embarked on a project to document their lives
through photography. The students were provided digital cameras and
photographic training to capture what being “We the People” means to them and
their communities. Guided by themes
drawn from the Preamble of the United States Constitution and the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, the students were able to interpret being “We the
People” through the creative process of photography. For the students from Philadelphia and Kabul,
the project was a chance to present themselves and their homelands to the
world.
The students took thousands
of photographs. And, when the images were compared, the students found shocking
contrasts and striking similarities.
The photos on display
were chosen and paired by the participating students.
