Master Plan

Philadelphia International Airport Master Plan & Environmental Study
Over the next few years, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is anticipated to grow at least 3.8% in passenger volume and 4.6% in cargo volume per year. In order to accommodate the demands presented by such sharp upward trends in air traffic volume, a consultant team, hired by the City of Philadelphia Division of Aviation, is preparing a Master Plan and Environmental Study.

The PHL Master Plan includes strategies and timelines for airport improvements over a span of 20 years. The Master Plan also provides for thorough studies on the airport's efficiency and potential impact of any proposed new development at PHL.

The Master Plan is as much an assessment of PHL's current capacity as it is a projected outlook on the airport's future operational demand, expansion needs and potential.

Once the Master Plan's recommendations are approved by the FAA, the Airport Layout Plan (ALP) developed during the study will be implemented. The ALP is a graphic depiction of the airport that will guide the development of airfield, terminal and landside components.
