Philadelphia International
Airport Rated Best for Mingling and Shopping Philly's
Friendly Flavor Favors Flirting and Feasting Philadelphia - In this season of love and
shopping, Philadelphia International Airport has topped the charts in two
recent travel website appraisals:
The makers of AXE men's fragrances
teamed with BestPlaces.net (Sperling's Best Places) and StrategyOne, a
marketing communications agency, to survey more than 860 travelers in search of
an airport with that special blend of tasteful style and romantic ambience. Out
of 37 metropolitan airports, Philly International was selected number one for
"connecting with someone." Citing the Airport's award-winning and diverse
Retail, Food and Beverage Program, AXE suggested that passengers take advantage
of those unfortunate long layovers by striking up a conversation with a
sympathetic fellow traveler. It could be the start of something big.
The national media quickly embraced the news and embellished it with more
details about the Airport's amenities, including comfortable rocking chairs,
live music, art exhibits, cafes, wine bars and nighttime views of the airfield.
Dallas may have Love Field, but Philadelphia now has "The Airport of Brotherly
Love."
On the heels of the AXE announcement, TravelPost.com, which is
primarily known as a hotel comparison website for travelers, published its list
of the 8 best airports for shoppers. Philadelphia also topped this list.
TravelPost liked Philly's mix of retail offerings, including some that are
familiar, like Brookstone and some that are unique, like Gap, Swatch and Bose -
along with a Magic Shop located in Concourse B.
"We try to make our
Airport a warm and welcoming place for everyone who passes through it," said
Philadelphia Director of Aviation Charles Isdell. "These acknowledgments
continue a tradition that dates back to 2000, when Philly International was
named one of the five best airports in America by the Wall Street Journal."
The Philadelphia Airport System is owned and operated by the City of
Philadelphia and is composed of Philadelphia International Airport and
Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The Airport System is a self-sustaining entity
that operates without the use of local tax dollars. It is one of the largest
economic engines in Pennsylvania, generating an estimated $14 billion in
spending to the regional economy and employing a workforce of nearly
34,000.
