It’s Wheels Up on Summer Fun at Philadelphia International Airport
A variety of special events greets visitors this summer
Philadelphia — As the busy summer travel season continues, Philadelphia International Airport is taking the extra step to ensure that visitors of all ages will have a fun and relaxing time during their stay here. Just Plane Fun, a summer-long program of special events, took off on July 2nd and lasts through Labor Day weekend.
To complement an exciting array of events such as live entertainment featuring a vocalist who sings in 12 languages and an appearance by the beloved Phillie Phanatic and the Phillies Ball Girls, the Airport has just introduced the “Passenger Chillin’ Zone.” Here, travelers can feel at home in a cozy living room setting with sofas, chairs, ottomans and trees. The Chillin' Zone, currently located in Terminal D, will rotate to various Airport locations throughout the summer.

As Just Plane Fun continues, among the events that have already taken place, representatives of the Philadelphia Union stirred up enthusiasm for pro soccer by handing out rally towels, magnet and pocket schedules, and the Please Touch Museum’s Play Patrol engaged young travelers in kids’ activities at the Aviation Play Stations in Terminal A-East and Terminal D.
Live entertainment, including Philadelphia’s famous Mummers strutting through the terminals and performances by jazz bands are scheduled to take place as well as educational and information sessions by the American Red Cross, demonstrations by artists whose work has been displayed at the Airport, and promotional giveaways. The legendary Tuskegee Airmen and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are scheduled to be among the participants in a special National Aviation Day Celebration on August 19th. In addition, Airport retailers are offering special sales and promotions throughout the summer.
Just Plane Fun kicked off with the exciting announcement that, as a service to customers, the Airport now offers free wireless Internet access to every one, every day. In order to connect, computers must have either built-in Wi-Fi technology or an 802.1 1b network interface card. Computer users open their web browsers and are directed to the Airport’s Wi-Fi splash screen for instructions on accessing the Internet.
“We strive to ensure that our customers have a pleasant experience at the Airport, and we also want to convey our appreciation to them for choosing Philadelphia International Airport,” said Airport CEO Mark Gale. “The economic recession was difficult for the entire travel industry, and particularly hard on aviation, but we believe things are beginning to turn around and better days are ahead. We are appreciative that our travelers have chosen Philadelphia International Airport and our airlines as their transportation of choice, and we are all collectively working hard to provide the best customer service experience possible.”
Please visit the Airport’s website, www.phl.org, throughout the summer for the weekly schedule of events.
