American Airlines is Ready for Summer at Philadelphia International Airport

Philadelphia, PA — American Airlines is ready to care for our customers this summer at Philadelphia International Airport. The airline expects to serve nearly 3.5 million customers from its Philadelphia hub on more than 33,000 flights between May 17 and Sept. 3 — with 23% more seats departing from PHL compared to last year.

“At American, our customer is at the center of everything we do — from offering the world’s largest network to delivering the strongest operation in our history,” said Lakshman Amaranayaka, Vice President of PHL Hub Operations. “We’ve spent the last couple of years re-inventing our operation and what that has amounted to is an operation our customers can count on. None of this would be possible without our 8,600 Philadelphia-based team members who are the driving force behind our success.”

American began preparing for the summer last year by hiring and training team members, ensuring its vendor partners are ready and preparing its aircraft, equipment and facilities. That includes advance work on its fleet to reduce maintenance delays, a focus on systems that keep aircraft cool, and leveraging investments in tools and technology.

This comes as American runs the most reliable operation in its history. Last year, the airline canceled the fewest fights in its history and achieved the best results for on-time departures and arrivals since 2017. With a continued focus on baggage, American improved bag handling by 15% compared to 2022.

This summer, customers can take advantage of American’s global network from Philadelphia International Airport with new destinations to Nice, France (NCE); Naples, Italy (NAP); Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH) and more.

American plans to operate more than 300 peak-day departures from its Philadelphia hub. For more information on American’s summer travel, visit our Newsroom.
