Want to know which terminals have pizzerias or where to find a cheesesteak? Need to find the closest restroom with a changing room? Now you can with the airport’s new navigation kiosks. Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) introduces digital Wayfinding Units between Terminals D and E. The state-of-the-art units are designed to smooth the airport experience as the interactive LED touch screens give passengers instant access to everything they need: departure gates, restaurants, lounges, stores, art displays, restrooms, baggage claim, and more. They also display all floor plans: Floor 1 for Check-in and Baggage Claim, Floor 2 for Departures, Terminals and Gates and 3 for International Arrivals Hall. “The process is very simple – tap the screen, search where you need to go and get instant directions to your destination,” says Megan O’Connell, PHL Director of Marketing and Branding.
These state-of-the-art units are very convenient as they allow passengers to access information directly on the screen without needing to download an app or go to the website. Enhanced by artificial intelligence, the units present the most efficient routes for navigating the airport and give passengers the best options for getting around. The directions can even be shared to a cell phone by scanning a QR code or to be sent via SMS. Plus, instructions are available in multiple languages to accommodate travelers from around the world.
In the future, passengers will be able to scan their boarding pass to receive instant directions to their gates. And a live chat function will be added.
The Wayfinding Units are designed to be accessible for all travelers, including those with disabilities. They come equipped with ADA features to ensure everyone has access to the information and services they need.
While not in use, the screens display local date, time, weather and airport information. This cutting-edge technology was implemented in a collaboration with Clear Channel, so the units are also designed to deliver important emergency announcements, further enhancing airport experience.
“Whether you’re arriving, departing, or just exploring, our Wayfinding Units make navigating Philadelphia International Airport more enjoyable and efficient than ever,” adds O’Connell.
