Travel Tuesday is December 3… Explore New Destinations Served by PHL!

The post-Thanksgiving holiday continues to include a number of special days dedicated to holiday shopping. The Tuesday following Thanksgiving is now dubbed "Travel Tuesday” with many airlines, hotels, and other providers offering specials. Taking place December 3, this year, Travel Tuesday is the perfect day to search and plan for your next trip. Looking for inspiration? Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI)

American Airlines will begin daily service to Edinburgh, the vibrant capital of Scotland, on May 23, 2025.  

Edinburgh is a treasure trove of history, architecture, beauty, and fun! Start your adventure at the iconic Edinburgh Castle, sitting majestically on Castle Rock. Stroll down the Royal Mile, packed with historic gems, quirky shops, and charming alleyways. Nature enthusiasts will love hiking up Arthur's Seat, an ancient extinct volcano for breathtaking views, or relaxing at the Royal Botanic Garden.

The city’s architecture is a visual feast, with the medieval Old Town and the elegant Georgian New Town, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Edinburgh is famous for its festivals, including the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the International Book Festival, both taking place in August. These events transform the city into a buzzing hive of creativity.

Milan, Italy (MXP)

American Airlines will also begin daily service to the fabulous Italian city of Milan on May 23, 2025. Milan, Italy’s fashion and design capital, is a dazzling blend of old-world charm and cutting-edge style. Start your adventure at the stunning Duomo di Milano Cathedral, a gothic masterpiece that will leave you speechless. Snap a selfie on its rooftop with panoramic views of the city!

Shopaholics, get ready to splurge! Milan’s Quadrilatero della Moda is a paradise for luxury shopping, with designer boutiques at every turn. Art lovers, The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is a must-see and can be found at The Museum of Leonardo’s Last Supper.

When the sun sets, Milan’s nightlife comes alive. Soak in the vibrant and quirky atmosphere in the Navigli district where you can stroll along the banks of the Naviglio Grande and the Naviglio Pavese, the original man-made canals.

Explore Milan as it gets ready to co-host, along with the Italian City of Cortina D’Ampezzo, the Winter Olympic Games and the Paralympic Winter Games in 2026!

Guanacaste, Costa Rica (LIR)

PHL recently announced a new nonstop service to Guanacaste, Costa Rica, starting December 7, 2024. Operated by American Airlines, this route will fly once weekly on Saturdays, offering travelers direct access to the popular tourist destination known for its beaches, biodiversity, and outdoor activities.  

Nature enthusiasts can enjoy sea turtles nesting, vibrant birdlife, and various wildlife in reserves like Palo Verde, Arenal Volcano, Tenorio Volcano, and Barra Honda National Parks. Guanacaste’s over 400 miles of Pacific Coast features 70 beaches, perfect for activities like surfing, snorkeling, and kayaking. Explore the Pacific beaches and rich biodiversity of the Guanacaste Province, which hosts 6.5% of the world’s biodiversity and 3.5% of global marine life.

The region is also known for its culinary delights, including seafood, fresh fruits, and renowned Costa Rican coffee. Nearby attractions include La Fortuna with its Arenal Volcano and Monteverde’s cloud forests, offering activities like ziplining and treetop dining. Guanacaste promises a blend of relaxation, adventure, and natural beauty for all visitors.

Barbados (BGI)

New nonstop service to Barbados is already underway. Operated by American Airlines, this service runs weekly, providing travelers with direct access to the Caribbean island renowned for its pristine beaches, rich culture, water sports and vibrant festivals.  

Barbados features four main towns: Bridgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Oistins, Holetown, and Speightstown. Visitors can explore historic sites like Bridgetown, 1st and 2nd Street in Holetown, Andromeda Botanic Gardens in Bathsheba, and the Arlington House Museum in Speightstown.

Adventure awaits with Atlantis submarine tours showcasing exotic fish, coral reefs, and shipwrecks. The island's blue waters are perfect for swimming, surfing, and scuba diving.

Whether dining from street vendors or upscale restaurants, Barbados offers a diverse culinary experience. Bajan cuisine is a flavorful mix of African, Indian, Irish, Creole, and British influences, featuring dishes like locally caught fish, sweet plantains, rice and peas, and West Indian curries.
