July 31, 2020 – February 9, 2021

Philadelphia artist Natalie Flor Negrón uses mixed media collage to create abstract installations filled with overlapping patterns, colors, and textures that evoke imagined landscapes. Her imagery alludes to wildlife with plant-like shapes and outlines of animals that surface amongst the abundant materials. Negrón’s work is influenced by “the natural world and our impact as a species on its survival.” She said that her “desire to return the world as it was, led me to take inspiration from primitive cave art.”

Similarly, Negrón creates 2-dimensional wall narratives albeit using varied materials from paper, board, vinyl, and transparent film to poured paint and washes. Her dense layers depict a lush dreamscape that features an allusion of plants and animals. Within Negrón’s unusual world of flora, fauna, and other forms of life, there is a cohesion, a coalescence where the materiality and wildlife combine into one harmonious existence.
