Eurhi Jones is a Philadelphia-based muralist and multimedia artist who primarily makes public art related to the natural environment. Inspired by biology, natural phenomena, and environmental sustainability, Jones is committed to combining art and activism to address the climate crisis. In addition to her practice as a muralist, she is an avid gardener who works in her community to raise awareness about native plants.

Her installation at PHL is part of “Overflow”, an ongoing series of works made entirely of discarded, single-use plastic. Materials for the Overflow series are collected by Jones’s family, friends, members of Weaver’s Way Co-op, and Rabbit Recycling, a local organization that handles hard-to-recycle items and welcomes artists to make free use of their materials. By eliminating new materials in her process, she strives to reduce her carbon footprint on the planet.

Jones sees the Overflow series as 3D drawings in space wherein colors hold specific symbolic and narrative functions—green and brown represent landfills; blue, white and purple are oceans and rivers; and red, orange, and yellow suggest incineration and how our plastic ends up as microparticles in the air. In her installation at the airport, white, blue, and purple represent a storm in the sky, while green and blue symbolize the waters below.
