Alonzo Davis: Power Poles
Alonzo Davis: Power Poles
Terminal B

May 16, 2005 - October 10, 2005

The artwork of Alonzo Davis is based on an assemblage of world cultures, particularly indigenous cultures of Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Rim whose traditional and modern communities maintain a spiritual reverence for nature. From these ancient cultures, Davis has derived his primary material-bamboo, considered the "staff of life since time began." The power of bamboo is evident materially, physically, and spiritually.

Alonzo Davis has grasped the culm of bamboo and uses its beauty and symbolism to communicate his aesthetic. Davis paints and adorns bamboo poles with color, textures, patterns, and materials to celebrate its ancient spirit, powerful presence, and continued resilience.
