Charles Searles: Moon Dance
Terminal C

August 8, 2003 - February 16, 2004

Charles Searles, a native Philadelphian, has been creating brightly painted abstract wooden sculptures for almost 30 years. Searles's constructions feature intersecting and overlapping geometric planar shapes reminiscent of the cubist style. Each shape is individually painted with a solid color, patterned, or thickly textured. Searles's work also embodies characteristics of African art forms especially the ceremonial masquerade that incorporates aspects of the visual and performing arts.
