“MINI is proud of our mission, collection, and (small) contribution to Philly’s arts community.”

The Mini Museum (MINI) is a unique concept for a collecting arts organization whereby all of the art, whether 2 or 3-dimensional, must be less than 6” in height, width, and depth. The miniature collection features artwork by professional artists, hobbyists, and youth with wide ranging subject matter, styles, and mediums. The collection includes paintings, sculpture, mixed media, drawing, photography, and ceramics but is overwhelming 2-dimensional which is reflected in this exhibition.

Founded in 2014, much of the collection is sourced from the Philadelphia area and today, it is home to more than 500 objects. MINI is multifaceted with their commitment to engaging the public through community-based workshops, art-making events, and outdoor exhibitions.

The museum is always looking for new ways to engage the public. MINI states, “We opted for miniature because we wanted to flip the power relationship between institution and audience…We wanted to mimic the professional presentation (the frames in particular) that traditional museums use while scaling it down so the viewer feels they can approach the artworks with confidence.” It is an intimate and friendly, welcoming art experience that is authentic and inviting for everyone.
