KIM SCAFURO: Doodle Portraits
Terminal B, Ticketed Passengers

Dec 11, 2019 - June 28, 2020

Philadelphia artist Kim Scafuro is a multi-talented designer from graphics to textiles and prints as well as an illustrator whose drawings and ceramics feature exaggerated, cartoon-like portraits. The large-scale 2-dimensional background, with little negative space, reads like a packed stadium of people. Each individual portrait is unique in its character while their collective presence is obsessive. Placed atop the predominantly black-and-white drawing are more portraits, colorfully rendered as a series of low-relief ceramic shapes.

Scafuro describes her fascination with drawing, As long as I can remember, I've always doodled in notebooks, on the back of receipts and on all possible surfaces. It's very freeing to just simply put pen to paper…” Here, she has created an installation of her doodle inspired drawings in both 2- and 3-dimensions. Scafuro says that “I like creating things that make me happy…and doodling is just really, really fun.”
