Philadelphia artist Don Miller is a furniture designer and maker who creates functional furnishings using linear elements that define the forms. Miller's furniture typically features rectilinear, curvilinear, or ice-ray patterns that are interpretations of Asian-inspired design. Whether the wood patterns are an open gridded framework, radial stripes, or serial curves, each embodies a geometric vocabulary.
Miller often uses bentwood techniques—wetting the wood then bending it—to create his desired curved shapes. Once dried, the wood retains its form. Miller's high-level of craftsmanship coupled by his minimalist aesthetic achieve a Mondrian-like spirit of simplicity.
