Philadelphia Charter School for Art and Sciences, a String Theory School
“String Theory Schools’ unique and rigorous curriculum blending
academic and artistic excellence, enable our students to become
the next generation of creative leaders.”
The Philadelphia Charter School for the Arts and Sciences at H.R. Edmunds opened in 2012. H.R. Edmunds was entrusted to String Theory Schools by the School Reform Commission as part of the City’s Renaissance Schools initiative. Located in the Frankford area of Philadelphia, Arts and Sciences “offers a comprehensive educational program that emphasizes equally academic and artistic excellence. Utilizing the arts as a catalyst, the school harnesses the most innovative teaching and learning techniques to serve as a model for education and to prepare students for success.”
The Philadelphia Charter School for Arts and Sciences serves grades K-8 and is said to be “unique among Renaissance charter schools because it has one of the most comprehensive arts programs of any elementary school in the United States.” The students study ballet, visual art, general music, instrumental music, and creative writing in addition to French and innovations in science.
This exhibition features portraits and geography-based themes by students in grades 5-8. The various techniques include drawing, painting, collage, and printmaking and mediums from acrylic, watercolor, tempera to marker and glitter.
