Founded in 1898, Fleisher Art Memorial is one of the country’s oldest nonprofit community art schools and is committed to advancing the vision of its founder, Samuel S. Fleisher, who believed that art is one of society’s greatest assets and equalizers. Its mission is to make art accessible to everyone, regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience.
Photography is a powerful medium that opens up new ways of seeing and relating that can radically deepen our intimacy with each other and our surrounding environment. In celebration of 2026, the 250th anniversary of our country, Philadelphia International Airport and Fleisher Art Memorial present a collaborative exhibition that celebrates Fleisher’s continued appreciation of film and alternative photography processes. Their commitment to the medium has translated into providing classes, workshops and a community darkroom for over 50 years. Juried by a committee of Fleisher staff and faculty, the images on view represent a select group of photographs produced at a Fleisher program during this last half-century. The final result is a weaving of images created by Fleisher students that capture some of the thousands of stories told by way of Fleisher Art Memorial’s darkroom; stories about Philadelphia, kinship, and belonging.
