Philadelphia illustrator and comic artist, Meghan Turbitt, is a keen observer of the city she calls home. Overheard in Philadelphia is a collection of comics and drawings about the people, places, and distinct flavor of the City of Brotherly Love. Through humor and wry scrutiny, Turbitt digs into what makes Philly, Philly; the stuff we love, the stuff we hate, and the stuff we love to hate.
Named the “birthplace of America”, Philadelphia is one of the country’s first cities and is home to many significant firsts that shaped America’s early government. Two of the country's most important documents – the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution – were written and signed here. In contemporary times, Philly also boasts a thriving food scene, a passionate sports fan base, and is a leader in arts and culture, with more public sculptures and murals than any other city in the nation. Turbitt says, “This project is really about Philly’s identity: messy, imperfect and for everyone. People here LOVE this city… I’m here because Philly is one of the few affordable cities where artists can actually live and work. My comics embrace the grit and humor that makes this place JAWN!”
