Philadelphia artist Faith Davis uses multiple mediums including sticker art, wheatpastes, and paintings on canvas, to “put the narwhal love out there.” Narwhals are fantastical looking creatures with spiraled tusks, sometimes ten feet long, that pokes out from their heads. It was by happenstance that Davis became obsessed with these amazing animals also referred to as “unicorns of the sea.” After learning more, she committed to educate others and pique people’s curiosity about narwhals through her fun-filled, stylized artwork.

Davis describes her distinctive aesthetic as “vibrant and ornate that features detailed color schemes and stencil patterns.” She wants her work to be overwhelmingly appealing and to make everyone smile. In the spirit of being accessible to all, Davis is a frequent contributor to Philadelphia’s robust street art scene where her narwhals often appear on public walls. In a 2018 interview, Streets Dept contributor Eric Dale wrote, “Best-known for her colorful narwhals, Faith paints and draws her work by hand. She also makes it a point to understand and respect the history, rules, and culture of street art and graffiti, in turn earning the respect of those communities.”

In that same interview, Davis said, “I want to be the voice of non-seriousness. I want it to be all about fun. Just fun to look at, fun imagery.”
