September 23 marks International Day of Sign Languages, a day dedicated to supporting and protecting the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf individuals. The City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive travel experience for everyone. PHL Volunteer Navigator Michele Lovecchio received the “Caring Support” award from Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to service by prioritizing the care of passengers.  

Imagine taking off from the runway, but not in a plane.  Approximately 500 runners and walkers did just that at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) on September 12, when they laced up their sneakers — instead of fastening their seat belts—for PHL’s sold out ninth 5K on Runway 8-26.

PHILADELPHIA — The City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation has made major progress on the biggest reinvestment in its history: nearly $2 billion in modernization designed to improve the passenger journey and reflect the world-class city and region Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE) serve. Through Transform PHL, the airports are upgrading the spaces and systems passengers rely on every day. A significant number of projects were completed at PHL to be ready for 2026.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) welcomes approximately 2,000 members of the airport and aviation industries to Philadelphia for the Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) 2026 Annual Conference and Exhibition. PHL is proud to serve as host airport for ACI-NA’s largest conference of the year. 

Labor Day means the unofficial end to Philadelphia’s historic summer of 2026 is here. Before suitcases are put away for the season, approximately 559,000 passengers are expected to travel through Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) between September 3-8 for the holiday—including almost 110,000 anticipated guests on Friday, September 4. 

Strengthening PNE’s secondary runway for the future

Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE) supports a range of activity as Pennsylvania’s busiest general aviation hub and the third busiest airport in the commonwealth. Each day, a diverse mix of aircraft, ranging from business jets to general aviation planes, move across the airport’s aprons, taxiways, and runways, including Runway 15-33.
