Summer Essentials and Safety Tips

With 7.7 million passengers expected to pass through the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) this summer, the TSA advises guests to arrive at the airport two-to-three hours before their flights. Since many people are traveling again for the first time since the pandemic – it’s important to remember that PHL has all the essentials you need and may have forgotten.

“There’s nothing worse than jetting off on your summer vacation and realizing you forgot summer travel essentials,” said Marketplace PHL Marketing and Customer Service Manager Megan O’Connell. "Luckily, we have everything from bug spray and sunscreen to a new book for the beach and sunglasses to help keep your trip on track.”

Passengers can find what they need to complete their trip here:

Summer Safety

PHL Safety Unit’s Bob Gizinski wants passenger to adopt a safety-first mindset with the phrase, “’Safety at home, safety at work, safety at play-- keep safety on your mind every day!’”

According to READY Philadelphia Or Not?, guests should keep the following tips in mind when traveling to sun, sand and outdoor recreation destinations:

  • Drink plenty of water – (passengers can also fill their water bottles before boarding at water filling stations located throughout the airport’s terminals)
  • Maintain a healthy diet
  • Wear lightweight, light colored, loose clothing
  • Wear a brimmed hat or visor
  • Wear sunscreen SPF 15 or higher
  • Rest in the shade
  • Use air conditioners and fans
  • Take a cool shower or bath
