KARINA PUENTE Fly High: Tools for Navigation
KARINA PUENTE Fly High: Tools for Navigation
Terminal E, Ticketed Passengers

November 20, 2020 - June 23, 2021

Dear Traveler,

Welcome. Please show yourself appreciation for how far you have come today. The art is an invitation to take a deep breath as we honor our original tools of navigation.

In 1937, the Royal Air Force selected six critical instruments adopted by both commercial and general aviation aircraft manufacturers for decades thereafter, the arrangement became known as the six pack.

What are the six basic aircraft instruments?

  1. Airspeed Indicator (ASI)
  2. Altimeter
  3. Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI)
  4. Attitude Indicator (AI)
  5. Heading Indicator (HI)
  6. Turn Coordinator (TC)

This artwork represents the points of contact we make with ourselves throughout our travels. Points of contact such as focus, hydration, and nourishment are intended to keep us blessed and on course. The best part is that we choose our direction.

For Tias, grandmothers, seers, and within circles of Indiginous wisdoms, the original tool for navigation is our intuition. Now it is your turn, dear Traveler. Softly gaze upon the artwork, admire your own beauty and ask yourself, “what do we need to arrive refreshed and in love with our lives?”

There is power in focus.

 With care,

Karina Puente

P.S. “Fly High” is a term of endearment my Tia Carmen says every time we speak.
