Team spirit and comradery filled the air on the morning of Saturday, May 4, as organizations from all over Southeastern Pennsylvania joined together to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philadelphia Region, an organization providing comfort, support, and resources to families of children battling serious illnesses.
The goal of the day was clear: Who could pull a 75-ton plane 75 feet in the fastest amount of time?
“The plane pull was such an awesome experience,” said Zoraida “Z” Antonetty, Department of Aviation Community Relations and Outreach coordinator. "Alongside my Department of Aviation colleagues, it was great to know that pulling a plane will have such a great impact on the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.”
Families, friends, and Philly sports mascots including the Phillie Phanatic, Gritty and Swoop cheered on the teams as they worked together for the shared goal.
Team PHL pulled the plane in 19.98 seconds. Many members were so excited that they were already prepared to try again!
“I had a great time! It was great to connect with colleagues while supporting such a worthy cause. I’m looking forward to participating in coming years,” said Tim Smith, Department of Aviation executive business analyst.
“I would definitely do it again. Not only did we help raise money and awareness for the Ronald McDonald House, but we had an opportunity to volunteer as well as meet new individuals and families,” said Tia Goldsmith, DEI/Employee Wellness champion.
“Supporting non-profits such as the Ronald McDonald House makes you pause, appreciate and be grateful.”
“What a joy, and how fun it is to know that it will make a difference in people’s lives!”
