Dr. Jamaine Mungo has joined the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Mungo, who has more than 20 years of cybersecurity experience designing, implementing, and overseeing cybersecurity programs and solutions for various organizations, was most recently a Cybersecurity Executive at Comcast Advertising. He fills a vacant position that reports directly to Chief Information Officer Allen Mehta with a dotted line to CEO Atif Saeed. 

“Information security has become increasingly critical for all organizations, and airports are no exception. It gives me confidence that we have selected such a highly experienced individual with experience in leadership and a strong background in information systems security, risk management, and cyber threat analysis,” said Saeed.

Over the course of his career, Mungo has implemented next-generation cyber initiatives, delivering advanced technology concepts along with researching cybersecurity risks and automated remediation solutions. He has implemented robust cybersecurity programs for the Department of Defense, State agencies and Corporations, leading several high-level cybersecurity initiatives. He has also recently published a book, Anatomy of Cyberattacks.

“As threats continue to emerge, we must be innovative and proactive in staying ahead of advancements utilized by adversaries along with ensuring the proper protection controls are in place to mitigate risks to functioning at an optimal level of achieving continued operational success. I am extremely excited to join a committed team and great organization,” said Mungo.

Mungo earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems and Decision Sciences from Virginia State University; his Master’s Degree in Information Security from the New Jersey Institute of Technology; and his Doctorate in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance from Capella University. He also holds some information security industry certifications and is a member of the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) Philadelphia Chapter. 

Mungo is passionate about sharing his technical knowledge with mentor groups and tech programs and has taught cybersecurity courses at Cornell University, Purdue University and North Carolina A&T State University.
