PHL Teamwork Makes the Dream Work - Department of Aviation Custodial Crew Chief Monique Glinton

Department of Aviation Custodial Crew Chief Monique Glinton received a “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” award from Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This award is designed to recognize individuals who exemplify outstanding service and demonstrate exceptional communication skills within diverse teams.

Glinton supports the custodial unit at PHL by providing staff with training on established cleaning procedures and passenger assistance. She’s been at PHL for 10 years and prides herself on her staff and on upholding PHL’s cleanliness procedures.

“We play a key role every day, every shift, and every terminal,” said Glinton. “Each day brings something new to learn, a challenge to tackle, and a chance to grow as a leader. I’ve loved leading a crew and finding ways to make our work more effective.”

Glinton was nominated by PHL custodial staff members Natasha Cobbs, Juanita Thompson and Shamara Gainey, who shared: "Monique is willing to work hands-on with employees on their assignments. No team member left behind is the attitude she displays. She wants the best for everyone, and she will help you succeed in being the best. Monique always has good energy from the start to the end of our shift. She is a great leader, trainer, and asset to our department. She goes above and beyond her duties and clearly shows that, although this is our job, she will treat you like family; she's there for you on and off the clock, no matter what. Monique is invaluable and genuinely cares about the airport's cleanliness. She is dedicated and cares about this unit and the reflection our efforts make on the entire department.”

Glinton recalls joining PHL for its precision and organization. “I wanted a job where what I do truly matters,” she said. “I take pride in knowing travelers’ first impressions start directly with the work the custodial team completes. Even if it’s behind the scenes, it’s exciting to be part of something so essential.”

At PHL, Glinton is proud of the work her department completes every day. “The most meaningful part of my job is supporting the airport by providing a clean and safe environment," she said. “I take pride in how the custodial unit comes together to collaborate and rise to every challenge.”

Glinton enjoys the atmosphere and energy of the airport. She believes the fast-paced environment keeps her on her toes and engaged as a leader. “Aviation is all about connection. People get where they need to go, families get reunited, businesses keep moving, and even though the custodial unit works behind the scenes, our work makes it all possible. We take pride in knowing travelers depend on the care we put into every terminal.”

Glinton strives to lead her department with firmness and fairness. She focuses on communication and consistency within her department and problem solves any issues that arise.

“I want to thank the entire custodial unit first and foremost personally,” said Glinton. “Everything we accomplish would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of every member. We show up for every shift and take pride in what we do together. I also want to give a huge thank you to my supervisors and fellow crew chiefs. Recognition is great, but none of this would be possible without all of us working together toward a common goal. I’m proud to work alongside everyone in the custodial department every day.”

The PHL Employee Recognition Program was established by the airport’s Guest Experience (GX) Department. Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by the GX Council Steering Committee’s Stakeholder Engagement Committee.
