Department of Aviation Custodial Worker II Nikosha “Nikki” Brown received an “Impression Makers” award from Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program for assisting a passenger in need. This award honors employees who consistently exemplify outstanding customer service in their positions.
As a Custodial Worker II, Brown is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of restrooms throughout the airport. She’s been at PHL for 12 years and works the 2 -10 p.m. shift Tuesday through Saturday.
“I love my job,” said Brown. “I meet different, friendly people from all walks of life. The most meaningful part of my job is making sure passengers have a clean bathroom and that if they need anything, if they can come to me, and I can help them.”
In her nomination of Brown, one passenger stated, "Huge shout out to Nikki! She is beyond special, and we are honored to have met her. I was traveling through PHL with my daughter. A few minutes before we began boarding my daughter began to cry and needed to use the restroom. Luckily, we were just outside of E4 restrooms, but they were temporarily out of order to be cleaned. I frantically asked Nikki if we could use it and explained why. Instantly, this most amazing woman sprang into action as if it was her duty. She took over and said the most affirming things to me and my daughter and got us in there quickly so I could help her regroup and change. Without Nikki allowing us access to the bathroom this would have resulted in a much different experience for my daughter. Because of her kindness and thoughtful support, things went as smoothly as they could have gone in this type of situation. Sending a thousand ‘thank you’s’ to such a wonderful person who was our guardian angel in a time of need!"
At PHL, Brown enjoys seeing celebrities travel as well as families traveling together.
Also, Brown enjoys working with her colleagues. “I love my coworkers,” she said. “They're fun. We’re like brothers and sisters. We help one another.
Brown’s most memorable moment at PHL is receiving this Employee Recognition award. “I feel appreciated,” she said. “I thank the passenger who nominated me.
In her free time, Brown enjoys spending time with her family, especially her grandson.
“I would like to thank Vernon Lampkin, Ray Glass, Annette Hammie, and Thwana Warner,” said Brown. “I would also like to thank the passenger who nominated me as well as Leah Douglas for always making sure we have the supplies we need.”
The PHL Employee Recognition Program was established by the airport’s Guest Experience (GX) Department. Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by the GX Council Steering Committee’s Employee Conduct and Recognition Committee.
