August 19 was big day at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE)! On this day, the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation celebrated three major events - National Aviation Day, PHL’s 85th birthday, and PNE’s 80th birthday. Events brought together airport employees, airline partners, stakeholders, and passengers for a day filled with appreciation for aviation and the airports’ contributions to the community.
Festivities kicked off at the B/C food court, where the Department of Aviation, along with partners and stakeholders including American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Philadelphia Police Department, and Marketplace PHL had giveaways and activities. The Department of Aviation’s Marketing, Guest Experience and Sustainability teams offered guests various PHL gifts and birthday cookies as a sweet treat to mark the occasion. A highlight of the event was the interactive flight simulator, which gave employees and passengers a chance to test their aircraft landing skills hands-on.
With lively music and plenty of giveaways, the atmosphere throughout the airport was festive and upbeat. This event once again showed the collaborative spirit of the many teams and organizations that help the airport run smoothly every day.
The Department also celebrated with employees in its offices. The celebrations included presentations sharing the rich history of growth of PHL and PNE, a preview of exciting brand updates coming to the airports and commemorative cakes.
“What a great day to celebrate this year’s 85th and 80th birthday celebrations for our airports,” said Chief Executive Officer Atif Saeed. “The current success of both airports is based on a hard work of tremendous number of employees, partners, stakeholders, organizations, and of course our passengers. And today, we are celebrating everyone involved. We're thankful for how far we've come and excited for what lies ahead!”
