PHL Impression Makers - Lids Sporting Goods Store Manager Shaun Young

Lids Sporting Goods Store Manager Shaun Young is known for his outgoing personality at the airport. He received an “Impression Makers” award from Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program for providing above and beyond customer service to a passenger. This award is presented to employees who exemplify exceptional customer service in their roles.

As store manager, Young maintains his store's inventory and schedules work schedules, among other responsibilities. His store also excels in personalized embroidery, catering to the requests of customers. He has over 30 years of experience in retail and has been at the airport for over two years. Throughout his life, Young has played every sport and did not hesitate at the opportunity to join Lids.

“Having customers leave knowing that they got exactly what they wanted and seeing them want to come back to Lids at the airport is the most meaningful part of my job,” said Young.

Young is known for demonstrating values such as transcending expectations, customer-centrism, prioritizing passenger needs, and respect.

At PHL, Young enjoys socializing with airport employees and meeting people from all over the world.  “I love the atmosphere of the airport,” he said.

In his nomination of Young, passenger Jamel Washington stated, “I received outstanding customer service at your Lids PHL airport location. Shaun Young was amazing! I never received or expected that level of service from a Lids store before. I was traveling through PHL, and a friend of mine who resides overseas asked if I could pick up a Philadelphia Eagles jersey for her on my way back abroad. Shaun went above and beyond to show me all the options I had to choose from, as well as explain the differences between each jersey. He was very patient and accommodating. He told me about all the options for customizing my purchase, which added a nice touch to the product. I'm not an Eagles fan, and I was not shopping for myself. However, because of the service I was receiving from Shaun, I decided to purchase a customized hat for myself! Besides purchasing an amazing-looking hat, Shaun's customer service made me want to patronize the store more.”

Young was ecstatic when the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX. Outside of PHL, Young is known by his alter ego Ultimate Eaglezphan, and utilizes this identity to promote positivity and healing and he has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The Eagles Autism Foundation is just one of the many organizations he’s passionate about, along with organizations that focus on peer pressure and substance use recovery. “I love giving back to the community and being able to make a difference,” he said.

Young is honored to receive this award and thanks Washington for nominating him. “I also thank my boss Anthony White,” he said. “He’s a great boss.”

The PHL Employee Recognition Program was established by the airport’s Guest Experience (GX) Department. Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by the GX Council Steering Committee’s Employee Conduct and Recognition Committee.
