A Showcase of Personal Treasures

HandbagsTchotchkes, knickknacks, trinkets- no matter what we call our personal treasures, the one thing they have in common is how invaluable they are to their owners.

For the fourth time in its 25-year history, the PHL Airport Art Exhibitions Program is showcasing the eclectic collections of airport employees and Philadelphia-area residents in “Personal Collections: Private Obsessions”. Items range from Philadelphia Eagles hats and bobble heads to antique glass and ice cream scoops. “The current installation is by far the most extensive one to date and it is proving to be a big hit with our guests and employees,” said Director of Guest Experience Leah Douglas. “This exhibit shows how alike we all are.  Although not everyone has a jar of wishbones, almost all of us have objects that we collect as a hobby and that bring us a sense of enjoyment.”

Among the pieces in the exhibition is John F. Kennedy memorabilia contributed by airpoKennedy Collectiblert photographer/videographer David Rosenblum. The inclusion of the items is timely, given November 22, 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination. The items belong to Rosenblum’s father, who passed away in 2015.

"It's really cool to be walking around the airport and see random strangers checking out pieces of a collection that my dad loved putting together," said Rosenblum. "Eight years after he passed, his legacy lives on for so many people to enjoy."

“Personal Collections: Private Obsessions” will be on display in the Terminal C/D Connector for the next six months.
