PHL Announces Additional On-Site Parking Availability: Limited Number of Spaces in Economy Lot Available Beginning April 21

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) has announced a limited number of onsite parking spaces will be available for passengers beginning April 21. The 1,850 spaces are located in airport’s economy parking lot and accessible via the parking lot’s Island Avenue entrance. Parking is available on a first come, first served basis. Shuttle buses will drop off and pick up passengers at all PHL terminals.

PHL’s economy parking lot closed in March 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19 on air travel. “Given the volatility of the aviation industry over the past two years, it was not financially prudent for us to open the lot and resume the shuttle service for brief stretches of increased activity. Now with our passenger volume rising steadily and travel restrictions being lifted, we are pleased to announce the reopening of a portion of the economy lot,” said PHL CEO Chellie Cameron.

In November 2021, PHL announced the economy lot would remain closed and used for aeronautical activity, including the airport’s cargo expansion program. The portion of the economy lot that is reopening is not immediately needed for this development.

PHL also announced a new rate structure for onsite parking.  Effective 12:01 a.m. April 21, the rates will be:

Passengers parking in the garages before 12:01 a.m. on April 21 will be charged the previous parking rates.

In addition to onsite parking, passengers are encouraged to use offsite parking lots (nine private short and long-term lots are located in close proximity to PHL), ride share, public transportation or have a friend or family member drive them to the airport.  During peak travel periods, those who intend to park at the airport should plan on arriving at least three hours early to ensure enough time to look for garage parking or find an offsite location, while still having time to pass through security and board their flights.  More information is available at phl.org/to-and-from.

On April 5, PHL and Aviation Facilities Company Management (AFCO) announced AFCO’s development of an air cargo and airport support facility on approximately nine acres of the former economy parking lot.
