With hundreds of organizations operating within Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), there are many career opportunities for individuals with various levels of job experience, interests and qualifications. Job openings are posted online at phljobportal.org.
Among the current opportunities at PHL is Airport Operations Trainee for the City of Philadelphia’s Division of Aviation, which owns and operates the airport. This entry level position serves on the team that is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the airport for passengers, stakeholders and employees.
“This job can be challenging at times, but it is very rewarding working with like-minded individuals that have a passion for aviation,” said Airside Operations Superintendent Wally DuBois.
Brian Naldzin (above) and Virgil Robinson III (right) joined the Division of Aviation in early 2022 as Airport Operations Trainees. Naldzin and Robinson, who work on the airfield, have bachelor’s degrees in aviation or airport management and have worked for airlines and at other airports. Naldzin is also a member of the U.S. Air Force.

Applicants for the Division of Aviation Airport Operations Trainee position must have a bachelor’s degree. “It is preferred that applicants’ degrees have an aviation focus,” said DuBois. Once hired, all staff are trained on the duties required to work at a large hub airport. Employees must also pass and maintain a clearance to work on the secure area of PHL.
