PHL Safe & Sound: Parkway Corporation Ground Transportation Associate Adelaide Adade

Parkway Corporation Ground Transportation Associate Adelaide Adade recently received the “Safe & Sound” award in Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This award recognizes employees who protect the integrity and safety of passengers through proactive communication, exemplary teamwork, courage, and effective action.

Adelaide AdadeAs a ground transportation associate, Adade greets passengers and works by the taxi booth and checks ride-share lanes and the airport employee lot. She upholds airport security regulations and protocols in every aspect of her work. She works Sunday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., and has been at PHL for over 17 years.

Adade demonstrates customer-centrism while working and is known for being a people person, intelligent, and always learning something new. She starts off her day with healthy habits and positive affirmations.

“I love helping people,” said Adade. “There’s always something happening at the airport. I also learn from passengers.”

In her nomination of Adade, Director of Guest Experience Leah Douglas stated, “Adelaide Adade is a dedicated employee who demonstrated her concern for passenger safety. When PHL relocated Zone 7 from the south side to the north side of the roadway, passengers leaving Terminal D Baggage Claim looking for ride apps were not moving along to the ‘island’ and instead waiting for their rides on the nearby curb. Drivers would stop where passengers waited, creating a safety issue for other guests crossing over to the ‘island.’ Adelaide was on the lookout for me to share her concerns regarding passenger safety. Her colleague radioed Adelaide when I was observed arriving in the purple parking lot. As I crossed South Commercial Road, Adelaide ran after me to flag the safety concern. We talked for a few minutes as she described the issue, saying that a child was nearly hit by a vehicle. She requested signs or other directional info for our passengers’ safety. Since then, cones with safety bars have been installed, and passengers intuitively know to follow them and are now safely awaiting their rides on the ‘island.’”

The most meaningful part of Adade’s job is following the rules and regulations to help passengers and contacting the communications center when appropriate. “I enjoy the opportunities the aviation industry provides for people,” she said.

Adade is dedicated to ensuring passengers experience the best customer service and choose PHL as their global gateway to the world. She frequently takes advantage of any training opportunity offered by her employer.

At PHL, Adade and her coworkers emphasize teamwork. “My coworkers and I ensure everyone is on the same page,” she said. “I love their passion for the job. We care about passenger feedback. We all have good judgment when anything comes up.”

Adade loves Philadelphia for being the city of brotherly love and enjoys exploring the various restaurants, parks, museums, and historical landmarks with her family. She’s also active in her church and volunteers to deliver hot meals to those in need every Thanksgiving.

One of her most memorable moments was assisting passengers from Ghana, her country of origin. She still recalls how thankful they were for her assistance.

“I want to thank Parkway for giving me the opportunity to make my American dream come true,” said Adade. “I love working for Parkway. I get emotional thinking about it because it was my first job in 2006, and I’m still here. I thank the Parkway management team and Leah Douglas for nominating me. I also thank all my coworkers who work together to make the company succeed.”

The PHL Employee Recognition Program was established by the airport’s Guest Experience (GX) Department. Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by the GX Council Steering Committee’s Employee Conduct and Recognition Committee.
