PHL Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: JetBlue Supervisor Johannalis Loyola

Johannalis LoyolaJetBlue Supervisor Johannalis Loyola recently received the “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” award in Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This distinction acknowledges employees who create a positive guest experience through service and delivery while collaborating with other organizations.

As a supervisor, Loyola oversees the day-to-day operations of JetBlue. She’s been with the company for over eight years, serving three of those years at PHL. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Aviation Management in Puerto Rico. She’s also a ground security coordinator (GSC) and upholds the safety of her airline and others by collaborating with most airport tenants. Additionally, she serves as a customer resolution officer (CRO), working with passengers assisted by a service animal and those with disabilities.

The most meaningful aspects of her job are teamwork and customer service. “You do this because you love what you do,” said Loyola.

At PHL, the values Loyola demonstrates are teamwork, effectiveness, customer-centrism, and transcending expectations.

In her nomination of Loyola, JetBlue General Manager Pamela Rivers stated, “Johannalis, 'Jolly', is the epitome of a team player. Whether it is within her own company or if it's working with other airport personnel. You can find her at the ticket counter, on the ramp, pushing wheelchairs, assisting with loading bags, carrying babies, folding up strollers and everywhere, helping wherever she can. She jumps into action quickly without waiting for people to ask for help. She sees the need, and she is there. Whether it's at 4 am or 10 pm, you will find her assisting when needed. I couldn't think of a better person to have on my team.”

Loyola and her crew members share a strong camaraderie, often assisting one another and exploring the airport together. Loyola and her team recently received heart pins after completing the “PHL HeART Scavenger Hunt Challenge,” celebrating the airport’s 25th anniversary of its acclaimed arts program. Loyola is the kind of supervisor who never gives up on anyone and is known for dropping everything and running to employees needing her assistance. She truly believes that ‘teamwork makes the dream work.’

In his nomination of Loyola, JetBlue Airport Supervisor Edwin Ramirez stated, “I want to nominate Jolly because she is an extraordinary human being who will do whatever it takes to get the job done and care for everyone. For example, our business partner ramp needed more personnel last month. As a result, it appeared that the flight would be delayed. Jolly saw her help was required on the ramp, and she quickly put on her safety vest, went outside, and did everything she could to get the flight out on time. I witnessed her loading bags onto the aircraft, removing all the cones and ground power, and helping the jet bridge operator back up to the proper safety spot. On that day, she was like a superwoman, but she is the type of person who does this every day and is always willing to help. There is no job too big or too small that she is unwilling to do. She always makes herself available to her crewmembers that she supervises and is always willing to teach them what they do not know so that they can get better at their job every day. She comes to work daily with positive energy. She knows how to motivate her people to get the most out of them, and in the end, she is always there to provide excellent customer service.”

The JetBlue values that stand out the most to Loyola are safety and fun. Within her JetBlue team, Loyola is known for being humble, good, proactive, hardworking, and consistent. She loves supporting her team and providing them with her expertise.

Loyola has enjoyed visiting Italy, Luxembourg, and her home in Puerto Rico. She enjoys collecting handcrafted items from every country she visits. She also enjoys meeting people from different countries and exploring their cuisine.

“I thank Pamela and Edwin for nominating me,” said Loyola. “Without them, I cannot do my job correctly. Teamwork is nothing without them. We have the best crew members.”

The PHL Employee Recognition Program was established by the airport’s Guest Experience (GX) Department.
