Women’s History Month: Frontier Airlines Inflight Supervisor Kimberley Wright

Throughout Women's History Month the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation recognized the women in senior leadership who contribute to the success of Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and its partners, like Kimberley Wright, inflight supervisor at Frontier Airlines.

Wright provides guidance and support to flight attendants at Frontier and has previously served as one for over five years.

“Women’s History Month is a reminder of the joys, struggles, and the life I have as a woman,” said Wright. “It’s a celebration of those before me who have paved the way for me and the next generation.”

A historical moment in women’s history that stands out to Wright is the passing of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. Wright appreciates this historical moment as it allowed women to participate in the democratic process, leading to women being elected to office. She believes it opened doors for women politically and helped millions of women move closer to equality in all aspects of American life. “Women advocated for job opportunities, fairer wages, and education,” said Wright. “Achieving this was a lengthy and tough struggle for decades. Looking back to those times makes me better appreciate the opportunities that not only I have available for me, but also my daughter as well.”

Dolly Parton inspires Wright for everything she’s done for women’s rights and charity work. “She came from a poor family,” said Wright. “She turned her life into something positive and gave back because she could.”

In her family circle, Wright looks to her Aunt Shawna for inspiration. “She’s always the person everyone goes to because she’s always there with a happy smile,” said Wright. “To this day, my aunt is doing what she did for me, for my kids. She’s just a source of inspiration and strength. She’s a delightful human being.”

At PHL, Wright loves the diversity she sees within Frontier. “What’s nice about this job is that no one is the same,” said Wright. “Everybody has something to offer. It’s so nice that you can show who you are to people everywhere. It’s such a positive and powerful influence that you can share with others and take great pride in who you are.”

The aviation industry allows Wright to learn from different experts in the field. “It’s amazing to learn from people,” she said. “It’s nice that this job allows you to share conversations and words of wisdom. It’s wonderful.”

While working, Wright loves making a difference in people’s lives. “When I was a flight attendant, I loved making a positive difference in passengers’ lives,” she said. “Right now, I love helping the flight attendants that I support. Even if I only help one person, I feel I’ve succeeded.”

Wright enjoys the financial independence her job has given her as she is the head of her household. “My advice to young women is not to be afraid and just do it,” she said. “This job was the best thing I’ve ever done, but I was initially so afraid. I’m so glad I took the initial step on my own. Fear holds a lot of women back. Don’t be afraid to take that step. Keep moving forward. Don’t let anything break you.”

Throughout her career success, Wright looks to her family for appreciation. “My three children were my supporters for this job,” she said. “They’ve had to make their dinner. They are number one in my book. They would always tell me I was doing a great job.”
