Philadelphia artist Lea Saccomanno is the founder of Sippin’ & Stichin’—a creative business endeavor that started during the pandemic offering participatory embroidery workshops. Saccomanno says that it’s their goal “to spread our love for the textile arts in a fun, accessible way.” Originally taught by her grandmother, embroidery has always been Saccomanno’s “way to unplug from everything going on around me and recenter myself.” She shares her passion for embroidery by connecting and teaching others to love it as much as she does.

In addition to using traditional embroidery processes, Saccommano has incorporated other techniques and materials that include embroidering on a variety of fabrics and using photographs with stitching as seen in the mixed media pieces of the Rocky statue and water ice. She says, “I was able to add different colors, textures, and pops of varying types of thread atop black-and-white images to reimagine and bring them to life.”

“Sippin’ & Stitchin’ aims to harness creativity in a fun environment where all feel welcome.”
