Bags Coming Through: PHL’s New and Improved Baggage Handling System

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is committed to making sure our travelers feel safe and worry free while visiting PHL and that our services are reliable and efficient. With recent upgrades to our baggage handling system completed, the Terminal A West Sector 3 Check
Baggage Inspection System Recapitalization Project will guarantee improvements to our baggage handling capability for years to come. This key behind-the-scenes project improves the speed, accuracy, and reliability of the baggage handling system in A West and the baggage threat resolution capability of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). This translates into travelers’ bags getting where they are supposed to go efficiently and safely.

Completed upgrades include the demolition and alteration of existing baggage handling systems in various locations; the construction of a new 2,500 square foot Checked Baggage Resolution Area as an annex to A West; the addition of three CTX 9800 explosive detection system
machines; and the renovation of the Sector 23 Baggage Handling System Control and Threat Containment Unit Rooms.
