PHL Teamwork Makes the Dream Work - Department of Aviation Security Operations Officer Supervisor/Badging Manager Vincent Elsier

Department of Aviation Security Operations Officer Supervisor/Badging Manager Vincent (Vince) Elsier likes to take on challenges. His dedication, hard work, and honesty on the job led to him receiving the “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” award from Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This award honors employees who enhance the guest experience through exemplary service and effective collaboration with diverse teams. Their commitment to delivering outstanding results plays a vital role in contributing to PHL's overall success.

Elsier’s duties include ensuring that all airport tenants comply with the Airport Security Program (ASP) and TSA Regulations for airport badges. “My work impacts how the airport operates,” said Elsier, who holds a bachelor's degree from Florida Institute of Technology in Aviation Management and a private pilot's license. “With the department operating successfully, it may provide faster concession services, facility repairs, on-time flights, and lower wait times for inbound baggage retrieval. My goal is to make the department the best and most efficient that it possibly can be.”

In his nomination of Elsier, Airport Security Superintendent Jason Clagg stated, “Since his promotion to Badging Manager in July 2022, Vince has made substantial improvements to the daily operations of the badging office. He has successfully re-badged over 4,000 airport employees while supporting the needs of an additional 12,000 badged employees, all while providing outstanding customer service to airport tenants and stakeholders. Vince skillfully coordinated the re-badging process, minimizing disruptions to regular operations and completing tasks. His exceptional organizational skills consistently enable him to meet and exceed deadlines. Vince’s leadership was instrumental in relocating the badging office from the Communication Center to International Plaza II. He is a valuable asset to our team, and I am proud to nominate him for his excellent service to the airport community.”

Elsier counts building strong relationships with tenants and employees as the most meaningful part of his job.

Growing up, Elsier flew out of PHL for several trips and is fascinated with the changes. “I love seeing PHL’s growth,” he said. “It has come a long way since I was a kid. There are more routes, bigger aircraft, terminal projects and expansions, and greater selections in food and shops. You get to see everything behind the scenes that takes place to run an airport efficiently, which the majority will never get to see.”

Communication is one of the most important skills Elsier utilizes with his team. “We have staff meetings and discuss things that have been going well as well as things that could use improvements,” said Elsier. “I'm always open to feedback and suggestions from staff on what they think we could do to improve the department and make their job as easy and enjoyable as possible. My team is always willing to go above and beyond. They work exceptionally well with each other, and if you were to witness it, you'd think it's more of a friendship that they have with one another than just being coworkers.”

At PHL, Elsier has demonstrated values of teamwork, proactive communication, effectiveness, and respect.

“I would like to thank Jason Clagg for the nomination,” said Elsier. “He is a huge contributor to this airport. He transitioned the airport badging process to paperless, which took years of preparation, and trained all the vendors on how to properly use the new technology. He is super involved with staff and tenants, and I wouldn't be where I am at PHL if it wasn't for him. I would also like to thank my staff. I may be behind the scenes making sure tenants are compliant, doing the paperwork, and processing the monthly billing, but without my staff's hard work, this would never have been possible.”

The PHL Employee Recognition Program was established by the airport’s Guest Experience (GX) Department. Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by the GX Council Steering Committee’s Employee Conduct and Recognition Committee.
