December 2022 Newsletter

Hi Team PHL and PNE,

Believe it or not, we are just a few weeks away from 2023. This year, especially the past few months, has gone by quickly.

We have a lot to look forward to heading into the new year. Today, we welcome our new CEO, Atif Saeed, to the airport.

On December 12, we will celebrate our 15, 25 and 35-year staff members and PRIDE award winners at our annual employee recognition ceremony. And next month, the Division of Aviation will become a standalone department in the City of Philadelphia, thanks to the passage of the ballot measure in last month’s election.

This time last year, the Omicron variant of COVID-19 continued to limit travel and we were not sure what the coming months would mean for our passenger volume. However, in the spring, American Airlines resumed service on several transatlantic routes, including Barcelona, Madrid, Venice and Lisbon for the first time since 2020. Aer Lingus also returned to PHL after a two-year hiatus. This much-anticipated European service, along with new and increased domestic and Caribbean offerings by all of our airline partners, kept our terminals busy right up to the fall holiday season.

We won’t have our final 2022 passenger volume numbers until February. While we won’t match our record-setting year of 2019, we are moving in a positive direction after two long years. I can’t wait to see what 2023 brings for the airport.

Thank you for your work throughout the year to welcome our passengers back to PHL. I am proud of our team and the efforts you put forth every day.

Wishing you and your families a safe and healthy holiday season and a happy, prosperous new year.

Keith
